Metaphor
Definition:
Metaphors are one of the most extensively used literary devices. A metaphor refers to a meaning or identity ascribed to one subject by way of another. In a
metaphor, one subject is implied to be another so as to draw a comparison between their similarities and shared traits. The first subject, which/who is the focus of the sentences is usually compared to the second subject, which is used to convey/carry a degree of meaning that is used to characterize the first. The purpose of using a metaphor is to take an identity or concept that we understand clearly (second subject) and use it to better understand the lesser-knownelement (the first subject).
Example:
“Henry was a lion on the battlefield”. This sentence suggests that Henry fought so valiantly and bravely that he embodied all the personality traits we attribute to the ferocious animal. This sentence implies immediately that Henry was courageous and fearless, much like the King of the Jungle.

Why would someone be as plain as salt? Salt is not plain.
metaphors are lke a cat they are ferocious and hairy
This is a simile because it is a comparison using the word like
i think that thisword meens that comparing two unlike thing the oras
love is hate
when you compare 2 thing to one another
nice one
The pages of history are turned slowly back
It's not parallel construction. That would look like this:
Johnny's favorite drink is the Mr.pibb from del taco freshly poured into a cup.
Johnny's favorite food is a tomato sandwich with dice tomatoes not chopped.
And so on. :)
Yes - it is a metaphor. It is NOT personification.
It is a similar lit. device to simile just without like or as
The Governor was eager to scrape a few barnacles off the ship of state…bread lines in the cities grew longer, and people in the country grew poorer...
...wrapped in a cocoon of blankets
Yes it is a metaphor
personification is giving something inhuman caracters of humans e.g. the moon picked up stones the moon can't pick stones in real sences
Isn't personification giving an INANIMATE object human characteristics?
Personification is giving an inanimate thing human like qualities.
no it could be inanimate or an animal
I definately believe its personification
you sure?
But first I had to discover that i am an invisiblr man
what is " where sun is king and water is queen what does the line mean meataphor?
It like sun is me king and moon is me queen got dat
personification
look at he example above
is this a metaphor?
IF LOVE BE ROUGH WITH YOU, BE ROUGH WITH LOVE
if not what is it?
It sounds like impropper grammar to me. But who am i to say ; I'm pretty sure a few things in here (my comment) are miss spelled..
No it's not a metaphor it's an antithesis.
correct
I think it's a chiasmus. It seems the most relatable to your phrase.
"If love be rough with you, be rough with love"
Love is supposed to be known as a deeply kind and caring feeling. The quote above can be considered as a few different literary devices.
Love is a feeling; and in the quote, love is showing an action: being rough. That is an example of personification.
There is also an example of an oxymoron: love being rough. If you refer back to my definition of love, or use common sense to know what love is; then, you can see that the definition of love contradicts with the definition of the act of being rough.
Lastly, the quote is a metaphor. love could possibly be a symbol of a person, that persons qualities being compared to the qualities of love; however, that person is showing roughness.
This quote is very simple to decipher if you look at it close enough with welcoming eyes.
definetly personification to begin with because love cannot be rough. it isnt a metaphor because the author is not saying its like anything, but rather simply giving good advice.
yes ITS correct
It's Chiasmus.
your wrong it isnt
grammar is key
no
Love being rough is a metaphor.
I believe thats irony..or a contradiction.
NOT nessicarily a metaphor.
I believe that's parallel structure
i think that's personification
that is not personification
pretty sure its personification because "love" is being rough, a human nature
For example "The teapot danced and whistled with glee." that show personification because it gives human characteristics to the teapot. A metaphor would be like "Fred's a pig at the table." because it is an comparison between two unrelated things and doesn't use like or as. Love can't be rough but it's a human characteristic so it truly is personification.
you are wrong
if you're going to help people, do it with consideration in mind.
